About

About The Points Standard

The Points Standard is an independent Canadian editorial project with one job: publish the benchmark for credit cards, points, and rewards in Canada. Every card we cover gets the same treatment — a transparent Standard Score, a monthly point valuation from The Points Standard Index, and first-year net-value math that shows its work.

Who runs it

The Points Standard is run as an independent editorial operation by a Canadian team that researches, scores, and reviews every card against the published methodology. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or sponsored by any bank or card issuer, and no issuer reviews or approves our content before it's published. Every card record carries a source URL and a last-reviewed date so you can check our work against the issuer's own terms.

How it's funded

The site may become referral-supported: some links to card products may be or become referral links, meaning we may receive compensation if you are approved for a card through them. That compensation never determines a card's Standard Score, its position in any ranking, a verdict, or a point valuation — scores are assigned before monetization decisions are made, and the full component breakdown is published on every card page so you can check our math. The complete policy is in our Advertising Disclosure.

How we work

The standards we hold ourselves to — corrections, sourcing, and what we will and won't publish — are in our Editorial Policy.
